15 Anime Characters Who Are Perfect For The ISTP Personality Type

This article is about a specific personality type and the anime characters that represent them. If you’re not interested in this, maybe you should stop reading now. But if you are, read on!

ISTPs are thinkers who have a preference for introversion and thinking as their two dominant traits. They also prefer sensing to intuiting or feeling when it comes to being perceiving. ISTP personalities make up only 1% of the population so they can be hard to find at times but there’s no doubt that those who identify with this type are some of the most interesting people out there. This article will introduce 15 anime characters who share these qualities and may just help you figure out what kind of person your favorite character is! So without further ado, let’s get started!

List of ISTP Anime Characters

1. Oda Nobunaga from “Nobunaga’s Ambition”

ISTP Character

This historical military commander and warlord was an ISTP who lived during the Sengoku Period of Japanese history. He was a ruthless ruler but extremely loyal to those who served him. His motto was that one should lead through strength and his unyielding personality left a long-lasting impact on Japan as we know it today. He leads by example and has no trouble making decisions which is typical for an ISTP personality type.

2. Levi Ackerman from “Attack On Titan”

Levi Ackerman

Unemotional and detached, Levi is very ISTP in his actions. He was found by Erwin to be the most suited for joining the military police which only adds to the strength that this type seems to carry with them. His past is very much shrouded in mystery but he has no trouble hiding his emotions when necessary. One of his best qualities is that he’s always focused on the task at hand which makes him a very efficient ISTP. He can be brutally honest in his words and actions but this helps show just how loyal he is to the people around him.

3. Ken Kaneki from “Tokyo Ghoul”

Ken Kaneki

A quiet young man who seems like an introvert but has inner darkness lurking beneath the surface, Ken is quite similar to Levi Ackerman when you get down to it. His personality changed dramatically after becoming one of “them”. After his accident, he became more withdrawn and observant than before but also began using this time to learn more about what made ghouls different from humans. While this doesn’t mean that all ISTPs are evil characters, his transformation certainly can be seen as a very typical ISTP trait.

4. Guts from “Berserk”

Guts

This swordsman has been around for centuries and he’s not even aware of it. He uses his strength to survive against all odds and never gives up on anything. His past is unbelievably tragic but because of this, he learned how to live without fear or shame which only makes him stronger as a character in the long run. Because ISTPs are natural-born leaders, they don’t have a strong need for people who support them but that doesn’t mean that they will stop caring about their friends when they’re gone as Guts did with Casca. The black swordsman learned the hard way that nothing lasts forever and has a strong sense of survival even in the worst times.

5. Gintoki Sakata from “Gintama”

Gintoki Sakata

This character is very much like Guts when you get down to it. The way that he cares for his comrades and takes on any task no matter how impossible, just screams ISTP through and through. He’s always looking out for what’s best for himself and those who help him in his adventures so he does have an ISTP siding with his tertiary Fi which isn’t all that common for this type. Despite being a nice guy deep down inside, he tends to be a bit too lazy and egotistical at times which makes him a hilariously enjoyable character!

6. Hiei from “Yu Yu Hakusho”

Hiei

This is more of the traditional ISTP just because he’s so hard to read at first. He has no trouble impaling his enemies or causing general mayhem with his sword but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t some good buried deep down inside of him. Unlike most warrior types, Hiei showed how focused he was on certain objectives which were one of the reasons why Yukina fell in love with him. Their relationship was based on mutual respect and understanding which only makes him an even more attractive ISTP character!

7. Toshizo Hijikata from “Hakuouki”

Toshizo Hijikata

This character is one of my favorites because he was so deliciously evil! He lived only to serve the shogunate under their strict rules about honor, loyalty, bravery etcetera. His personality was often seen as cynical or pessimistic by other characters because he never saw them fit enough in his mind which could indicate inferior Se developed into Ti when it comes down to it. He was also quite strict with Yamanami because of how much he cared for him but this only shows ISTP loyalty at its finest.

8. Jonathan Joestar from “JoJo’ Bizarre Adventure”

Jonathan Joestar

This guy will never say die. His ability to stand up to any obstacle in his way is something that every ISTP can admire. Even when facing an enemy who can best him, Jonathan will always get back on his feet and fight again which makes you respect the hell out of him as a character! While Se users are often very hard-headed, Ti tends to make them more observant about certain things while fighting to make their combination quite deadly.

9. Yato from “Noragami”

Yato

Being a God who doesn’t have a shrine dedicated to him takes a lot of guts. Even when he was struggling for survival, Yato never stopped believing in himself which is something that people rarely see from this type of character. He’s the kind of normie ISTP you would meet on the streets and have no idea how deadly they can be because they wear their tender heart on their sleeves. Not needing to prove his worth every second of the day makes him a very good leader while still looking out for those close to him!

10. Hanataro Yamada from “Bleach”

Hanataro Yamada

This boy deserves more love than he gets because, without him, Ichigo wouldn’t be able to save anyone from trouble if it came to it. He was always very mindful of his friends and would do just about anything for them which is something that ISTPs are rarely seen doing in fiction. During the few times, he did fight, Hanatarou didn’t seem to be all that great at doing so but that doesn’t negate the fact that he cared for people who were not related to him by blood or friendship… something to admire indeed!

11. Natsu Dragneel from “Fairy Tail”

Natsu Dragneel

He may not have started as much at the beginning of the series but somewhere along the way, Natsu began displaying some surprisingly deep thoughts. He knows when he needs help and isn’t afraid to accept it showing how independent this character is despite being an introvert. He’s also a very loyal person which is something that ISTPs respect very much!

12. Ryoma Echizen from “Prince of Tennis”

Ryoma Echizen

This dude may be a more idealistic example but he still holds a special place in my heart as an ISTP character. Although the author tends to portray him as being really nonchalant about everything, Ryoma does have some common sense and values the time he spends with his friends. However, if this isn’t enough to convince you then I don’t know what will because sometimes you just need to see it!

13. Tomoe from “Inu x Boku SS”

Tomoe

So yeah, this dude is a sadomasochist and if you’re into that then I would recommend checking out this show! Despite being a masochist, Tomoe never struck me as having inferior Si because he knew exactly what was going on around him. He’s really funny but can be serious when he needs to be which makes him such an interesting character overall however if you’re looking for someone soft then I suggest that you look into his other type!

14. Kyouhei from “Durarara!!”

Kyouhei

Who wouldn’t want to have this guy as a friend? He’s the kind of character who never lets anything beat him down and can work through whatever problem he has with ease. While ISTPs do not like bringing others drama, they will defend themselves or their friends if need be which is something to truly admire about them. When he does fight, it could even be argued that Kyohei prefers using intelligence rather than power to get things done making him very interesting in my opinion!

15. Saitama from “One Punch Man”

Saitama

I know some of you may disagree with me on this one but hear me out first. Yes, Saitama may indeed come across as stupid at times for not understanding certain situations he faces in the series whenever he tries to do something nice for someone. However, this is the reason why I think he’s an ISTP character because he has that child-like personality of wanting to help others without understanding how difficult it can be at times. It does show that despite him being a powerful hero, Saitama still cares about others more than himself which ironically makes him not only very smart but also very wise!

There you have it, folks! Did you agree with my list? As always, thanks so much for reading and I hope you all have a great day!
